A pop up exhibition + discussion project devised + curated by Katie Reid. I was invited to participate in 'SHIFT'; an open artists work space where myself, Morgan Cahn, Richard Taylor + Lada Wilson played with the concept of work + play, + the notion of the 'third place'.

Taking over Enjoy..! a popular cafe in the east end of Dundee, collectively we placed ourselves in this working space. A place between work / home / studio; where ideas were drawn up, thought through, discussed + played with in an informal environment, whilst the cafe operated + the public came and went.

Small works were brought by each artist, which acted as a catalyst for conversation about the concepts of creation, performance + roles.

My contributions were in the form of small movable structures which were intended to assess the values of input / output + too-ing / fro-ing. These were placed in + around the cafe, at differing heights + interaction levels. They were there to be played with, however, came without instruction; intended instead for their potential to be explored through idea(l)s of function vs. non-function. I also set up a station for zine manufacture. Zines being a staple of my practise, the publication for SHIFT was created at my formal workplace whilst observing the public in the space. The observations within the publication were challenged by their residence within Enjoy...! + discussed with the public who took a copy away. In many ways, the publication became a map for those who returned to the space of its inception.

Over the course of one day, all involved performed their roles as artists + fed off of each others creative processes; altering the perceptions of the works brought whilst informing the creation of works throughout the day + the discussions there of.
